Coming Together for Summer Safety

A message for the community

It’s the summer and we know that young people want to have fun. However, since early June, the Farmington Hills Police Department has noticed an increase in groups of hundreds of teens gathering in business parking lots and residential areas across the City. These gatherings are fueled in large part by social media and are raising concerns among community members and business owners.

While many of these meetups have been uneventful, they can be unpredictable as they can quickly transform from small to large gatherings. The Farmington Hills Police Department has even received reports of theft, vandalism and violence. Thankfully, no one has been hurt.

In addition to enforcing curfew and other applicable ordinances, the City is asking for the community’s support in addressing this concern.

Talk with teens and young adults in your care about the importance of respectful behavior and the impact of their actions. For their safety, encourage them to avoid unsupervised gatherings.

If you notice unplanned large gatherings of young people in the community, please call the Farmington Hills Police Department’s non-emergency line at 248-871-2600.

If there’s an emergency, call 911 immediately.

Let’s work together to ensure that Farmington Hills remains a safe and welcoming community for all. If you see something, say something.
