For the 40th consecutive year, the City has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (May 15, 2024) — The City of Farmington Hills continues its legacy of excellence in governmental budgeting as it proudly announces the receipt of the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). This prestigious accolade, marking the City's 40th consecutive year of recognition, underscores its commitment to the highest standards of fiscal management.
"This milestone is an example of the City’s dedication to operating at the pinnacle of fiscal responsibility for the continued benefit of the community," said Thomas Skrobola, Finance Director/Treasurer for the City of Farmington Hills. "With each passing year, the City reaffirms its position as a beacon of excellence in governmental budgeting."
The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award stands as a testament to the City's dedication to transparency, accountability and prudent financial stewardship. It reflects the meticulous efforts of the City's Finance Department in upholding the fundamental principles of governmental budgeting. To receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.
There were more than 1,700 participants in the GFOA Budget Awards Program, with award recipients being the benchmark of excellence for governmental entities across North America. The City's achievement not only reflects its internal dedication, but also sets an industry standard.
The City of Farmington Hills Finance Department is comprised of three primary functions: Accounting, Assessing and Treasury. The department’s main responsibility is to facilitate the prudent use of the City’s financial resources by maintaining accurate and complete records of all financial transactions, assets and liabilities. The department also prepares the annual budget, processes payments for City employees and vendors, administers the City’s retirement benefits, and manages the City’s liability and property insurance.
