City of Farmington Hills Unveils Art Exhibit by Margo Dupre

The artist reception has been rescheduled for Friday, April 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dive into the dynamic world of local art in the City of Farmington Hills, while exploring the vibrant mixed media works of renowned artist Margo Dupre at the rotating exhibits gallery in Farmington Hills City Hall, on display now through May 3. The public is invited to meet Dupre during an artist talk and reception on Friday, April 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at City Hall, located at 31555 W. Eleven Mile Road.

The City has a long tradition of celebrating and showcasing local artists through its Public Art Program. Dupre's distinct artistic vision recently earned her the People's Choice Award for her two Huichol-inspired paintings at the Farmington Hills 2024-2025 Public Art Program opening in January. Dupre’s art seamlessly blends colored pencil, acrylic paint and yarn to breathe life into her intricate mixed media creations.

“I developed a personal passion for creating in this style,” said Dupre. “It is my intention to show through my work my admiration and respect for this process and encourage those who see my work to be curious about where my inspiration springs.”

Employing a unique blend of materials, Dupre captures the essence of nature with vivid colors and meticulous detail, inviting viewers on a journey of exploration and wonder. Her dedication to the environment is evident in her choice of natural cotton yarn to create delicate flowers, fostering a deeper connection with the natural world.

Reflecting on her artistic process, Dupre remarks, "I love the feel of yarn and the rich, bright colors. I try to capture the physical textures in nature and seek to share the adventure of closely observing them in my artwork."

Dupre's exceptional talent has garnered recognition and praise, with her artwork featured in private collections across the United States. Notable accolades include the 2011 Armstrong Philley Special Award in the Artist League of West Texas for her painting "Botanical Ballet," showcased in the Public Art Program. Dupre has a degree in Art Education from the University of Detroit and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University-Portland.

The City’s Public Art Program, which launched its eighth installment in Jan. 2024, was established in 2010 to enhance the newly renovated Farmington Hills City Hall, and to offer
employees, residents and visitors a chance to experience and enjoy a wide range of art. The artwork also helps to create a welcoming environment for the public and gives local artists the chance to present their talent to the community. Artists featured in the Public Art Program generously allow the City to display their art on loan for two years.

“The City of Farmington Hills is a community that values the contributions of artists,” said Rachel Timlin, cultural arts supervisor for the City of Farmington Hills Special Services Department. “The local enthusiasm for art is undeniably expanding, as our visual and performing arts classes, camps and workshops at The Hawk have been increasingly popular. We have even seen some of the students go on to display their pieces in the latest installment of the Public Art Program.”

Public art in City Hall holds significant importance as it embodies the cultural, historical and societal values of the community, and creates a visually stimulating environment that encourages engagement and fosters a sense of identity and belonging among citizens. Public art can also stimulate productive dialogue, incite critical thinking and evoke emotion, contributing to a robust and dynamic civic atmosphere. Moreover, it lends aesthetic appeal to public spaces, making City Hall a more welcoming and inclusive place for all. Public art can also aid significantly in wayfinding, making public spaces more navigable, as it serves as a visual guide, offering distinctive landmarks that assist visitors in orienting themselves within the building.

The 2024-2025 Public Art Program features a diverse and eclectic mix of works created by artists ranging from raw talents, fresh out of College for Creative Studies to seasoned professionals skilled in the Impressionist style. The works on display feature a variety of media, including clay, metal, fiber, paint and photography, with subjects ranging from very contemporary to traditional. Dupre's solo show is open to the public at City Hall Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. through May 3.
