Farmington Hills Voting Precincts 11 and 12 moved to Costick Activities Center, Due to Fire at Wood Creek Elementary
The location change will affect the Aug. 6 Primary Election only
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (July 29, 2024) — Due to fire damage at Wood Creek Elementary School, the Farmington Hills Clerk’s Office must relocate voting precincts 11 and 12 for the Aug. 6 State Primary Election. Precinct 11 and 12 voters will now vote at the Costick Activities Center in the gymnasium. The Costick Activities Center is located at 28600 W. Eleven Mile Road, between Middlebelt and Inkster Roads.
In the early morning hours of Saturday, July 27, the Farmington Hills Fire Department responded to a fire at Wood Creek Elementary School. The fire was contained to the outside of the building and there were no injuries. However, the inside of the building has significant water and smoke damage, making it inoperable as a polling location for Election Day on Aug. 6. Signs will be posted at Wood Creek Elementary School to redirect any voters who show up on Election Day to the Costick Activities Center.
"The recent fire required us to promptly relocate Precincts 11 and 12 for the Aug. 6 Primary Election and we understand that this may cause inconvenience or confusion,” said Farmington Hills City Clerk Carly Lindahl. “The City Clerk’s Office is a resource for voters, and we’re committed to supporting voters through this unexpected transition to ensuring a smooth and secure voting process.”
If voters are unable to make it to the Costick Activities Center on Tuesday, Aug. 6, other options are available, including early voting at the Costick Activities Center through Sunday, Aug. 4, or voting by absent voter ballot, which can be picked up at the City Clerk’s Office in City Hall prior to Election Day. The City Clerk’s Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with extended hours until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, Thursday, Aug. 1, and Tuesday, Aug. 6. The Clerk’s Office is also open on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Farmington Hills City Hall is located at 31555 W. Eleven Mile Road.
Wood Creek Elementary School is the regular voting location for Precinct 12. It was also set to be a temporary location for Precinct 11 for the Aug. 6 Primary Election, due to renovations at Farmington Central High School, the regular location for Precinct 11. At this time, the City Clerk’s Office expects both precincts will return to their regular locations for the Nov. 5, 2024 General Election.
