Farmington Hills Police Investigate Fatal Crash on I-696 West

The Farmington Hills Police Department is currently investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred on westbound I-696 near Drake Road at approximately 2 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.
 
Farmington Hills police officers were dispatched to the location on a report of a head-on crash involving two vehicles. Preliminary investigation shows that a BMW X3 was travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-696. A head-on collision occurred between the BMW and a box truck travelling westbound. After the collision, the vehicles slid into the ditch on the north side of the expressway, where they became engulfed in flames. The driver of the BMW sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the box truck was not injured. Due to the extent of injury to the driver of the BMW, identification is pending.
